How nerb.ai uses cookies and similar technologies.

Last updated 8 July 2026

Default state

What runs by default depends on where you are, based on the approximate country derived from your IP address when the page loads:

  • UK, EEA, and Switzerland: nothing beyond strictly necessary storage runs until you accept. You'll see a banner on your first visit, and no analytics or advertising technologies load until you choose "Accept".
  • Everywhere else: analytics and advertising technologies are enabled by default, and you can opt out at any time from the banner or the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer.

We also honour the Global Privacy Control signal: if your browser sends it, we treat that as an opt-out and load no analytics or advertising technologies regardless of region. These choices are applied through Google's Consent Mode.

Strictly necessary storage

We use a small amount of client-side storage that is essential for the site to function. This includes remembering your cookie consent choice (a consent.v1 entry in your browser's local storage) and, when you are logged in, maintaining your authenticated session (a nerb_session cookie). These items are set without requiring consent because the site cannot operate properly without them. They are not used for analytics or advertising and are not shared with third parties.

What we use with your consent

Where analytics and advertising are enabled (because you accepted, or by default outside the UK, EEA, and Switzerland until you opt out), we use Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager to understand how people find and use the site, and advertising technologies from Google and Reddit to measure how our ads perform. The following cookies may be set on your device:

  • _ga — Google Analytics, distinguishes users. Expires after 2 years.
  • _ga_<container-id> — Google Analytics 4, session state for this property. Expires after 2 years.
  • _gcl_au — Google, measures ad conversions. Expires after 90 days.
  • _rdt_uuid — Reddit, measures the performance of our Reddit ads. Expires after 90 days.

When these are enabled we may share limited event data with Google and Reddit so they can attribute ad conversions. For conversion matching this can include a hashed, irreversible form of your email address if you have given it to us. This only happens where you have consented, or, outside the UK, EEA, and Switzerland, have not opted out.

Server-side tagging

Some measurement requests are routed through our own first-party endpoint at nerb.ai/metrics rather than sent directly to Google or Reddit. This lets us serve tags from our own domain, but it does not change your choices: the same consent rules apply, and nothing runs when you have opted out or when Global Privacy Control is present.

Changing your choice

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page, which reopens the banner. Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage under the key consent.v1; clearing site data for nerb.ai also resets it.
